The objective of the course if to provide students with an undertanding of the key issues associated with climate change, as well as the current transformation of our energy systems in order to reduce carbon emissions.

Climate change issues have received increasing attention over the past years, with a huge impact on the energy systems.
The energy system is responsible for a significant part of human activity related CO2 emissions. In most countries, the energy systems are in the midst of an in depth transformation. In this context, this course examines:
  • Economic theory, empirical perspectives, and political economy of energy supply and demand, both for fossil fuel and renewable sources of energy
  • Public policies affecting energy markets including taxation, price regulation and deregulation, energy efficiency, and control of CO2 emissions
  • A specific attention will be given to the climate change negotiation and its impact following the COP 22 in December 2016. The course will cover theoretical and practical issues such as emission permits and the problems of displacing fossil fuels with new energy technologies
